the hand coming from the top is mine reaching for the lower hands which belong to my grandma. the four items in the collage are things that have been on her fridge or in her kitchen for years.
she is holding a few items that I heavily associate with her.
the polaroid is my mom and uncle when they were children. the baby head is an odd towel (?) that my grandma has. the heart picture of me hangs above the dining table where her, my grandpa, and my uncle eat home cooked meals every night. the lottery ticket is something extra special. my grandma's lucky numbers are the family birthdays.
in the collage, i am offering her a memory of myself in exchange for all of the things she gives me. Making this collage was hard for me emotionally because i am very attached to my grandmother and it's been hard not being able to see her.
i was going to use different images of her hands from previous trips to her house but i decided i needed a specific one so i called her up 10 minutes after her nightly "goodnight favorite granddaughter" text (i am her ONLY granddaughter) and asked her to have grandpa take a picture of her hands cupped. she was very excited to be a part of the art. but overall i am still not very happy with this piece. I just wish you guys knew her personally so you could fully understand.
