About

Like many educators across the globe, I have been given the challenge of teaching remotely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2019 and 2020. This blog gives visual form to the educational process of teaching without being physically present. Once a week, I will create a post challenging my students to create a visual response to a theme or topic relating to this once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully, this blog will highlight my own experiences as well as my students’ during this challenging time.

Currently, I teach at two different institutions in central Ohio: Columbus State Community College (CSCC) and Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD). This blog will highlight the research, ideas, and artworks of the two classes I teach: 2-D design at CSCC and Fine Arts Junior Seminar at CCAD. Both subjects are predominantly hands on. Geographically, they are within one mile of each other, however, there are limited interactions between the two institutions. I'm hoping that through this platform, I will be able to bring connection to my students during a very isolating time.

To put the isolation into perspective, Ohio Governor, Mike Dewine, has shut down much of everyday life, leaving limited businesses open such as banks, grocery stores and hospitals. People have been advised to stay at home with no clear idea for how long. It is my hope that this blog will help alleviate our collective sense of isolation.

  1. Even though, educationally speaking, this will be difficult, I think that facilitating this process on a blog, where we can interact with students we haven't met, will force us to get creative with our art pieces. I'm excited to see what everyone makes in this isolating time. Additionally, being separated from the studio also enlists us with the responsibility of creating a studio space in our own homes. Good luck, y'all!

P.S. If anyone needs anything (from studio supplies to basic necessities) and cannot find access to such things, please private message me! I may be able to help in some, safe and social-distancing, capacity. This endeavor is difficult for all of us.
