The Moon in The Afternoon

Phases or What is Shown

Just as any form of art "Moon in The Afternoon" can be interpreted in many different ways. However, the lesson I took from it is to accept things completely. Instead of stopping at the surface level, be patient and discipline enough to stay and wait to see what that moon will do in the afternoon. "Nobody looks at the moon in the afternoon and this is when it would most require our attention". The moon could be a symbol for the friend that always seems to have it together, but behind closed doors is really hurting. Or that successful person you keep comparing your life to when you see the family and stable career, but never thought about the work and hard times they also endured all day until it was night time. "In the midst of the circle the spots are still there indeed", just as it seems others are living seamlessly or getting by without struggle everybody has to get through the long afternoon to finally show what is desired to be seen.

Response to Cole Hussey

Wow Cole I liked this interpretation. Using our daily struggles as the phases that the moon goes through throughout the month is something I did not get while reading but it makes sense. As you see the moon and the sun as one, and kind of on a team helping each other out. When I read it, I figured that the day was a metaphor for the things we hide from others or the things others hide from us. So, throughout the day we work hard, we fight our struggles in peace, and even be our true selves. But when its nighttime that’s when we show others what it is, we want them to see.

Response to James Janeri

I agree James in the beginning I was a bit lost it took me a couple times to read it to really understand what was being said. I agree that this reading could be about trust, the trust that we hold in things we can’t control is pretty amazing. Sometimes I think about the amount of trust we put in cars and our phones every day. Considering these are machines, who knows the damage it could do to us if something was to go wrong. Lastly, it is funny how it seems like everything relates to our current situation, but it is a good reminder to continue to push and find joy even when it seems far from possible.
