The Art of Detail in Photography
The Art of Detail in Photography
For this I've decided to do photography of a few of my own peaces of work in my apartment since really that's all I have around me. I have a bronze hand that I had casted and some ceramic vases that I mad this semester. I also have a vase that I made in glass these are all individuality peaces. since photography can show detail in so many things if done right I wanted to take that to the next level and instead of just a regular photo of the image I was going to take them into Photoshop and light room and edit them into HDR and black and whit and really just play around with the photo's of the individual objects. I also wanted to one really big cohesive set up as well almost like a still life. I brain stormed some ideas first and the first Idea was to paint, but than I figure most people would be doing paintings, also i'm not a very good painter. I also tried to think of words that detail could go into and how I necessarily could "recreate these works" and what I could do that was different. After I had my Idea down I start Photographing the individual peaces and than when I did those I did one big Cohesive instillation/Still life. I than took them all into Photoshop, and light room to edit them into HDR (High Dynamic Range) or what ever it comes into as interesting Subject. Basically I want to take original images of object and recreate them into something else, but using the original images I took of my own work.
These are the Original Photo's of the separate objects that I have chosen to recreate by using Photography. (Photo sets one the original images)
These are my Brain storming Idea's. I gathered and looked at all the work I had around me and figured out what I could do with it and this is what I came up with.
These Two I was just messing around with because they where going to be merged with a few images but I decided not to merge instead make them into my own edits. (Photo Set 2 the original images)
Photo Set's 1: The Final Edits of the individual Objects
Below are the two Final still life edits I created using the single art peaces besides the bronze hand.
Photo Set's 2: The Final Edits of the Two Scenes
Below are the two of the HDR photo's I tried to do. While they look kind of cool and the gazes came out really cool, and it pops a bit, It was very difficult to do HDR with not only the amount of experiences I have with HDR, its also been since Senior year of High school that I've done this. so I did the best I could with it. I learned a few things from some video's I watched on how to do it. I think Ill post the links in the Comments if you would like to watch and learn as well.
Both images are in HDR but using two different soft wears, the first one is using Photoshop and the second is using Light Room.

i enjoyed the craftsmanship and glazes of the ceramic pots but i think that since they are already kind of busy in the color and patterning/glazes, they would benefit from a white background. I've also found that the flash of a phone camera tends to overexpose images and you lose a certain amount of detail that way. I would try having someone hold a phone flashlight further back from the pots to get them evenly lit.
ReplyDeletethe last photo is my absolute favorite. the colors really pop in it.
i do enjoy the city in the background, but i would suggest being more mindful of the tilt on your photos, it can throw off the balance.
yeah, I was useing my Canon camra for all the photo's and I was working with what I had because I didn't have any like nicely lit back grounds they where all scratched and I didnt use my phone camera I used the Flash on the camera, I know your not suppose to do that always have a lit background but it was also night and I didnt have a proper flash like I should. Just trying to work with what I have. cant wait till we could get back in the actual class and studio and can take proper photo's like this. I also should have used my tripod for these as well but didn't even think about it.
