So many cats

Throughout this lockdown period I've been mostly making art in my living room. I usually sit on the floor directly under this painting I made sophomore year for the copy project, so it only seemed appropriate to use this piece for the project.

This is an imitation of Scott Hewicker's painting titled Cherub. I recommend looking at the real thing, its much more detailed. Anyway, I look at this thing all day and think about the layers of cats and what it is about repetitive actions that I really enjoy, and if this is something I like seeing in my art. I've wanted to try embrodiery for a while and I can see the connection between the repition of sewing and the repetition of these cats. I didn't have all of the same colors, but I had the general color scheme in different tones.

Some sketches while I was deciding what medium to use. I'm glad I tried embroidery, turns out I don't love it. I could have watched a video on how to properly close a stitch but I wanted to experiment and see how it went. This is about 7x4 inches and is raw canvas. I'm thinking about trying to stain the canvas with an orange-ish wash of paint or something to bring more warm colors into it.
