Lost in LaLaLand
For this project my original thought was to create an actual room with furniture and walls. While brainstorming, I had an idea to doing a plant wall. My great aunt has a wall in her house that is filled with plants that grow along her wall. This was the inspiration for my piece. With this idea I decided to take a more imaginary approach. I sketched a few plants, and decided on doing less of a realistic style for the final piece. I wanted to use bright colors and a bold black outline. I practiced this is my sketch book by painting some of the titles. I tried mixing paints and using a gradient effect on the word "big". This is seen again in my final piece in the flowers. The gradation gives them more of a 3-D look even though they are not realistic. In my head a image sitting in one of these flowers on a warm spring day withe headphones on, working the day away. I also wanted the colors of the flowers to act as "paint" that I could dip my brushes into to use for art. This workspace would double as a relaxing space and well as a practical source of resources. I know that it is possible to use flowers pigments in real life as a art material, so in my fantasy world I would do the same with a simple dip of my paint brush.
