Daytime Moon

In Mr. Palomer, Moon in the Afternoon, the moon is described by its color, form, dimension, and texture. The moon is also depicted through movement, fluctuation, reappearance, gleaming, and opacity that could be interpreted as metamorphism and passing of time. He starts out by comparing the phenomenon of the afternoon moon to gain the form of a vibrant full moon at night and the doubt this might cause. He continues by talking about the consistency and irregularity of the form. There is a balance to the regularity of light and color, form and shapelessness, light and dark, and the relationship between space and time, the movements of the moon are not visible. Is the moon real? I think this is talking about doubt and how something that might be missed or assumed that it doesn't exist does, you just have to take a moment and observe what it is you're seeing. There could be multiple forms of what you see every day. You might not catch that if you don't take a moment to understand what it is you're actually looking at.

Jade, I agree with your interpretation of the chapter. I think it would improve us as artists to take moments to think about what we are actually seeing and observe rather than rushing through life and missing out on small things that could benefit our development as creators.

Nicole, I really liked your interpretation, I didn't think about the anxiety that comes with doubt and that overthinking of natural occurrences. They can't always be manipulated to benefit the observer so dwelling on something that distracts from productivity isn't good either.

  1. That's an interesting perspective laura, I would have never thought of doubt being apart of any of that. Just Like you say
"There could be multiple forms of what you see every day."
There are also many forms of doubts, that is an interesting take and sometimes taking a moment and realizing that is need. so maybe Mr. Palomar is not just notice the moon and pay attention to that but also in his head realizing he is having doubts about something, someone or maybe even his self. Than again maybe not who really knows.
