Ideas:
Music directly affects me and the art I make. Before I start writing down ideas I create a playlist to capture the feeling I want to go for within a piece. Here is the playlist that I made for this project: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5tiPxBKaUubcuG7qW4k5mA?si=ndSxYmJaS1WtSHnjc2UxGQ
Here are some of the songs if you are interested!
Souk Eye- Gorillaz
I'm Not In Love- Kelsey Lu
White Moon- Beach House
Bones- Crumb
Paleisk ManÄ— Mano- Kamaniu Silelis
Amour plastique- Videoclub
Faust- Gorillaz
Anonymous Club- Courtney Barnett
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Anthology 3 Version)- The Beatles
Get Happy/ Happy Days Are Here Again- Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland
Going into this project and after reading the prompt I created a playlist and got into the headspace while I started to imagine some ideas. I didn't think of having high quality paints and huge canvases but rather a space where I was happy. A space that ignited creativity. Where I was relaxed and didn't feel anxious or had to face internal struggles. The space was filled with plants, lights, and big windows that overpowered the room in a way that brought me joy. I created a list and just a few sketches because I wanted to focus on the light, warmth, and color rather than what was physically in the space. I set some challenges for myself by not looking at a photo reference while painting. I painted more gesturally and not as carefully. The feeling of the piece ended up feeling more melancholy especially with the music choice but I think I'm okay with that. Since there was a short time restriction for this project I wasn't able to render as far as I would have liked... but maybe this kind of exercise was good for me. I was out of my comfort zone and I kind of liked it. I want to continue to work on this. I will edit this post with updated photos as I go.
