A QUEST FOR OBSERVERS
Mr. Palomer, a word cannot explain him. He is a thinker, dreamer, scientist, writer, and observer. Looking at the writings, I felt like I was looking at an encyclopedia of observation by Mr. Palomer. Mr. Palomer does not make such common observations as everyone does, but rather sees, observes, and communicates with them. I would like to say that what Mr. Palomer is talking about here is a connection with the object he observes is similar to the moment when a mother is about to give birth and feel and interact with a child for the first time. Also, Mr. Palomer is a dreamer, so he constantly observes and studies, but he doesn't come to a conclusion easily. He is a man of good suspicion. As you can see from in the story "Moon in the Afternoon" there is a passage, "Nobody looks at the Moon in the afternoon, and this is the moment when it would most require our attention, since its existence is still in doubt" (Calvino, 35),he begins to observe from his doubts. I think this suspicion is the difference between an observer named Mr. Palomer and a typical simple observer. Of course, the thoughts that come from Mr. Palomer's observation and his words are hard to understand and confusing and can be lost. It's like a mind map that pushes branches away and bites the tail of an idea. But as mind map originally begins with something certain, Mr. Palmer knows with confidence what he wants to observe. And he is conscious of every element without seeing anything easily. Mr. Palomer's lessons are not easily overlooked, but constantly suspected to interact with the object of observation from all senses.

I agree with you that Mr.Palomer is trying to commune with people should make time to service the ordinary parts of life that can be overlooked. I think that's the beginning of Mr. Palmer's observation.

I think it's nice to hear you say Mr. Palomar is stepping the layers of the world to reveal what it truly underneath. I think you expressed Mr. Paloma, who endlessly explores and observes the nature of the object very well.

Your comparison of Mr. Palomer's observation to a mind map is a very definitive and accurate way of describing the way that he thinks. He chooses a singular object, form, or concept to study, and his observations from that point forward are not necessarily linear. Instead, his observations are sporadic, where some ideas connect to one another, and others seem out of place, but loosely connected to the focus. In not limiting his observation, Mr. Palomer ends up with a haphazard and disorganized description of that which he observes, but, nonetheless, it is more accurate than observations that are guided.
ReplyDeleteI like some of your language about Mr. Palomar being “a man of good suspicion,” and the comparison of Mr. Palomar to a mind map, “Mr Palomar knows for certain what he wants to observe.” That quote I found particularly interesting because it brings up ideas of essentialism, Mr Palomar is already defining the moon before he even begins observing, but because he is of good suspicion, perhaps he’ll find something new there.
